    To do my flocking I mix PVA glue with a bit of water then I paint it on the inside of my drawer, add the flock and seal it in a plastic bag and shake it to fill. This method eliminates the dust problem

    Nice video, Brian. Very good reuse of containers that would just be tossed. Yes, do more on the hydroponic process like, do you have to change out the water often or not at all?

    • @brianprocter6191
      @brianprocter6191 2 місяці тому

      No change, I think, opaque containers help, less algae growth, add straight water often, someone said every other time, solution may get concentrated. I tried one this morning changing solution and now the leaves don't look great. guess it shocked it good.

    Hi Brian, another great idea thanks. Just a quick question: Did you put the crazy glue on the first one because the industrial velcro was not sticky backed (unlike the fabric velcro)? Also, you might consider using a small round ball magnet in the bottom of your homemade inertia sander just to stop the arbour falling out. A ball shaped magnet will keep it there and also act as a bottom bearing. It worked for me😂

    • @brianprocter6191
      @brianprocter6191 2 місяці тому

      The industrial one is also sticky backed, even better than the store bought one. I used the crazy glue to seal the surface of the foam, hopefully to get a better bond in the end. I believe it worked. Had to watch the video as I had forgot about that. I have never hear of the ball magnets, Would be a great idea if there was a dead end hole, the shaft just goes through the bearing to vacant space, but if it would stay on the end and magnetise The shaft it would hold it.. How do you use them, I may be missing something.

    • @julianmortimer5057
      @julianmortimer5057 2 місяці тому

      @brianprocter6191 Thanks for that Brian. No you are not missing anything. A couple of years ago, I was demonstrating some hollow form turning at my local woodturning club using a wooden articulated jig based on your two videos that you made some time ago. A great success by the way. During the demonstration I also showed members my homemade inertia sander. I just turned a suitable shape handle in oak that fitted comfortably in my hand then at one end I drilled a hole down the centre and at the other end a hole at around 60 degrees to the handle. I pressed a round magnet in the bottom of each hole and a cheap Chinese 1/4 inch ID bronze sleeve into the neck of the hole to act as a bearing. So effectively one handle gives you two positions to place the disc holder in. The magnet holds it in and acts as a bottom bearing, the bonus is that I can insert the handle into an old fashioned wire nails with the head cut off and hang it upside down under a shelf for storage. Everything works a treat but I'm just beginning to have issues with the velcro lifting from the rubber pad hence my question. By the way I'm an avid follower from over the pond who, like you, prefers and enjoys making my own bits and bobs rather than paying silly prices. Similar age too I would suspect- keep up the good work Brian.

      @@julianmortimer5057 Thanks for the reply, I understand now, I made one with a bushing but it didn't turn too well. That ball acting like a thrust bearing would do the trick. Feel honoured that you made the low cost articulated arm and it worked for you. Really nice to know. Right now I am experimenting with hydroponics, a real plus here in Northern B. C. Thinking of making a short video, so people don't think I am laying around doing nothing,

    Ok, this is essentially exactly what I did. I needed 26; I'm in the process of building a historically accurate Enigma machine, and man, that involves a LOT of disks with 26 holes in them. And they all need to line up almost EXACTLY, through a stack of four "rotors" each of which involves three disks with holes, and they need to do that in all 26^3 possible rotational combinations. I'm almost done drilling center an "alignment pin" holes and next will come drilling the electrical contact holes.

    Hi Brian I’ve enjoyed watching your videos,you certainly cover many subjects.as to mushrooms I’ve been turning since the late 70s and one of my first turned or should I say attempted turned pieces was a mushroom out of wet wood mine had a tall thin stem which changed shape after a few minutes in the microwave.im now 82 this year and still turn most afternoons after my morning walk.im convinced that one needs a hobby when retired and my happy place is standing in front of the lathe. Thank you for taking the time to put your content out for others to enjoy and learn,and good luck with the bike restoration. Regards from NZ

    Hi, tremendous video can't thank you enough. Just wondering tho Would a brad bit be ok if I don't have a panel bit and what size panel bit did you use? And would a 12mm bit be too small as 31/64 bit is 12.3mm and finding that size brad is quite difficult here in the uk but will do if critical. Good health to you

      I think you are referring to the hole for the bolts, they where metric I believe as the hole in the bearing is a metric size. If you have metric drill, certainly use them. The drills that I use for the recess for the bears are called Forester bits, is that what you call panel bits.

    Hello Brian, The Duck turned out quite nice. The jig will have to be added to my collection, just like clamps you can never have enough 😁 Thanks for sharing the video 👍 Something you might want to think about is picking up an old treadmill a Free Spirit, Club line or Herb Industries they came with a nice Leeson 1.25 or 1.5HP DC motor and good controllers and convert yourself to a variable speed lathe. Pick up a digital RPM tach so much nicer to work with. Thanks again, take care, Wayne
